Ronindo Introduction to Aikido
The Ronindo Introduction to Aikido is a 6 lesson course for “adults” (over 14’s only). They run over 6 weeks, on Wednesdays from 7.00pm to 8.00pm. It will provide you with a realistic opportunity to experience aikido for yourself, as well as providing a good grounding for continued training, they also offer the chance to train with other newcomers, make new friends, and at the end of the course those that wish, will have the opportunity to grade.
The Ronindo Introduction to Aikido 6 week course costs £40 and includes 12 months British Aikido Board Membership Insurance. New Course starts WEDNESDAY 16TH JANUARY
What`s Involved?
Each class will start with warm ups. These will develop through the course, but there will always be some slow stretching to get the body ready for movement. After warm ups, the class will move to slow practice of basic Aikido techniques. This gives the student the opportunity to develop body awareness and create a strong centre before undertaking more vigorous practice towards the end of the course. Eventually students will be able to get into the flow of the movement, and be able to speed up the techniques. Finally as you begin doing full Aikido movement, you will be given the opportunity to take your first Aikido grading and continue on your Aiki path.
The 6 week Introductory Aikido Course Covers:
- Fundamental Skills: ukemi (rolls and break-falls), tai-sabkai (body movement), te-sabaki (hand movement), hanmi (body posture/stance)
- Basic aikido techniques: tai-jutsu (empty handed techniques) - how to perform & receive basic attacks, locks, pins & throws
- An introduction to the weapons of aikido: Tanto (Wooden Knife), Jo (wooden staff) and Bokken (wooden sword).
What to wear
You should wear comfortable robust clothing, such as a sweat shirt and jogging bottoms. Ronindo also sell kogi at a reasonable cost if you decide to continue your aikido training after the initial 6 week introduction.
Please do not wear any hard or metallic objects and all jewellery should be removed before each practice.
Aikido is practiced in bare feet but Zori (flip flops or similar) should be worn when off the mats to avoid bringing dirt onto the training area.
