What an awesome day! 20 competitors entered and 13 medals won;
4 Golds, 5 Silvers and 4 Bronzes. We had a massive presence at
this competition, with members, parents and friends all
supporting each other with shouts and cheers!! Along with the
more experienced players there were some newcomers to
competition this time. Roo Daly from Totnes showed exceptional determination and had a couple of very tough fights but still came away with a brilliant 2nd place and silver medal in the -27kg. This was Billy Hitchen`s, one of our Dartmouth players, first competition and he found himself in one of the strongest category with at least 16 other -30kg competitors. He fought his socks off all day and ended up with a very credible 4th place and a bronze medal. Otis Skitch from our St Paul`s Paignton Venue won all his fights convincingly and achieved a gold medal in his weight class. He also pulled off one of the best O-soto-gari`s I have ever seen, remarkable! Also in this category was Devon Jewsbury from Dartmouth who fought well and gave us our second -38kg medal with his 3rd place Bronze . Max Cameron was our -42kg player and at only eight years old found himself up against some much older players, his determination and obvious joy at being there paid off and he walked off with a Silver medal for his weight group. Alex Martins from St Paul`s also fought brilliantly and achieved Silver only losing to fellow team mate Yoran Sheppard in the final, Yoran is currently training twice a week at our St Paul`s and Totnes venues and is improving rapidly now and won a very well deserved Gold in the +50kg. We have a very strong girls presence in Ronindo with just under 50% female membership and we fielded six girls at Kingsbridge this year and all the girls medalled. Amy Allen was returning to competition after some time away and performed well winning silver in the -28kg section, Amy practices at our Dartmouth Venue. Our next entry was in the -40kg with both Sophie Fisher and Matilda Hyland flying the flag for Ronindo, Both Sophie and Matilda practice at several of our venues two or three times a week. They both probably gave their best career performances so far and it ended up with all three of the top players achieving the same number of wins and points. The only way to split them was by checking who achieved the wins the quickest, when this was totted up, Sophie came out with the Silver and Matilda the Bronze. In all honesty there was nothing to choose between all three medal positions. Charlie Bond who also practices three times a week at St Paul`s, Preston Community School and at Totnes was representing us at the -48kg and performed brilliantly with some very tough fights but she managed to battle her way through to the Gold medal position. The -57kg category again was unbelievably close with the top three players being unable to be split having beaten each other coming out with the same number of wins, points and times!! There was no alternative but to fight all three off again in a separate competition to determine the medal order. Again Ronindo competitors came out with first and third place results with the gold going to Holly Fear and Isabella Perks getting Bronze. The rest of the squad who who fought just as bravely on the day but who were not in medal positions were;Josh Cousins -30kg, Harry Sidnell -30kg, Kieran Nash -34kg, Oliver Smith-34kg, Aaron Meakin-Johnson -34kg Aaron Daly -34kg and Kolya schwinge-30kg (withdrew). Congratulations to all competitors parents and supporters, Well Done Ronindo!
