Gold At The Kent International Judo TournamentPosted on Thursday, 28th June 2012 - 3:09 pm by Ray Brown
Billy however found his form on the day and won all his contest with Ippon maximum scores. His first two fights went really well and was finished in short order both with Kesagatame holds. This put him through to the semifinals were he faced a lad who had also one all his fights with Ippon, once again Billy`s ground-work proved to be his best tactic and his opponent was soon in his now trade mark kesagatame hold. Billy found the final a little more taxing and at one stage was being held himself in a kesagatme hold down. However he remained calm and managed to escape the hold before conceding any score. The match was restarted with both players now standing once again. We had noticed that during the preliminary rounds his opponent had been very successful with his Ouchi Gari inner thigh throw, so Billy was ready for this attack and as he did so, Billy braced himself and literally launched his opponent in the air with a massive Uranage (rear throw) landing him heavily and decisively onto his back for yet another Ippon full point win, earning a Gold medal at this prestigious event. This is the 2nd time Ronindo players have entered this annual event and Billy`s Gold is one better than the Silver we achieved in the previous year, lets hope next year is even more successful with more Ronindo players bringing home trophy`s well done to all this years entrants. |
